So I’m obsessed with DUCKWRTH’s production process. He has a series of videos on YouTube that detail the recording process of his new album, SuperGood. He skirts the line between recording with a group and individually…The sounds are recorded on individual tracks and at separate times, however, there are usually multiple people in the same room and the experience seems intensely social. It helps that a lot of the instruments are MIDI and they have tiny, state of. the art, vocal booths. All the musicians and producers are vibing off each other’s ideas; it’s a creative hub!
This means that writing is happening simultaneously with recording. Duckie has a concept and some musical ideas and/or lyrics and then invites all these different musicians/producers into the studio to create the actual song collaboratively. It helps that they have access to multiple studio environments and amazing instruments. Duckie also has such a strong understanding and imagination of the concept that they are doing a bit of mixing as they go. I would love to work on this skill.
