Wall of Sound…?

I used a recording of one of my songs I made a couple years ago on garageband.

Unprocessed file

I found a Vintage Phaser setup and used a couple of interfaces from that. I wanted to see if I could make the sound ‘bigger’ a la a ‘wall of sound’ and more crunchy, rock n roll. The original mix is so rough that the levels were a bit painful at times but I didn’t really fancy going into the original file and messing with that just yet. This was a fun little exercise to get me feeling a little more confident in playing with interfaces!

The ‘Double Brit Phaser’

I messed a little around here to try to fix the high levels screeching in my ear…

The Compressor was really fun and made my vocals sound far grungier! The Phaser definitely had some tripping quality to it, I loved the way it made the sound bounce of imaginary walls and carve around the listener. Sorry for the extreme pan happening – hope it doesn’t bother you too much!
